How we came to be:
On December the 3rd, 2008, I stumbled across a site called the "Robert Pattinson Fan Club" (www.studentsoftheworld.info/clubs/club.php?NomClub=-
That's when it all started.
She said her name was **Lilly. She was a computer programmer from Oregon who had recently moved to LA. She was also a close friend of Robs. She built everyones trust by helping scare off fake "Robs" by threatening to "fry" anyones computer that attempted to pose as him. She reassured everyone that he had asked her to keep watch of the site for him as he did, in fact, like to visit and chat frequently with his fans. I was hooked. I knew it was more than likely a fabrication, but "what if" right? Apparently, I wasn't the only girl who felt that way. Day after day for the next week, I logged on and spoke with Rob's dedicated fan girls. We became "The Band", as we liked to call ourselves. We joked about Rob, what we would say if we ever met him, how or why he inspired us; but mostly, we talked about ourselves. We happily traded emails, myspaces, AIMS and facebooks; all on a public chat site. Throughout, Lilly remained our inspiration and inside source to all things "Rob". She said he wouldn't be on the chat for another week, so we all enjoyed getting to know her. She told us stories about everything from their conversations and how they met to her personal woes and heartbreaking tales. Lilly and her stories were (and this is for you Twilight fans) everyones personal brand of heroin. She told us exactly what we wanted to hear: anything and everything about Rob.
Lilly told me to make a myspace page. She claimed she didn't like facebook and myspace was easier. I happily obeyed. Besides, I was that much closer to being able to talk to Rob if she was my friend. I was only one person away from being able to ask him questions, to get to talk to him, to get to KNOW him. I was hooked, depsite my head telling me I was foolish and it was all a lie.
Not long after, Lilly snapped.
She came online in a rage, saying he was a "prick" and "to talk to him, only if you wanted your heart broken". Everyone was so confused. That's when she leaked his myspace page on the chat along with his email. She said goodbye and "have fun dealing with him, he's just like any other man". Despite Lilly's warning, we all added him. Some received replies to the messages they sent him, other received nothing. "Rob" sent an email to a few select people. (To read it go the "Rob's Letter" page) Not long after Lilly posted a bulletin on her myspace. It showed emails back and forth between her and "Rob". He claimed he loved her and was sorry for involving her and Kristen (co-star Stewart) in a bet between his friends and him. It all seemed so possible and real, but likely? Not so much. More and more "Rob" accounts were created as the old were deleted. Oddly, whenever he was online, so was Lilly. Everytime his account was deleted and recreated, so was hers. It was all too convienient. Finally, once everyone had finally stopped believing, the "REAL" Lilly showed up. She claimed her sister had hacked her account and "Robs" and had been the one causing mischief.
Things from that point on began to snowball.
Some of the members of "The Band" received letters from Rob on myspace. The letters claimed that they were from a friend of Robs that was now handling his myspace. The reason? Rob was sick of people stalking him and numerous people from the band's IP addresses had tried to engage in internet sex with him. The "friend" then said that all of us who had attempted to contact Rob would be listed and blocked from any further contact. Within the next hour, both Lilly pages and any myspace linked to Rob, were deleted. This is when I knew for sure that we had been played.
So was it all just a fabrication? Was any portion of it true? That we will never know. What I do know is that not only were alot of peoples feelings hurt by this situation, but peoples privacy was invaded. It was invaded when a mysterious person read heart-felt letters meant for Rob, it was invaded when we were lied to, but most of all, it was invaded when someone collected our information and kept it for their own records. We will never know who it is. Whoever they are, they were every bit believable. They studied him. They never missed a date or fact. Even the most die hard fans were confounded. Our privacy was robbed of us. That is our fate for being foolish fans.
These events are what inspired me to create this website. It is a dedication to all the loyal fans that have been fooled by a poser, a celebrity imposter. It is proof that you can never trust anyone on the internet, no matter how much you might want to. It is proof that people will go to any lengths to protect a lie. This site is a dedication to your safety. Celebrities will be forever entitled to their privacy...
So will you.
